Logs or Pellet

Logs

There is far less manufacturing involved with logs than there is with pellets and chips – or indeed none if you collect already fallen wood yourself – making burning this type of wood very eco-friendly.

However, you’ll have to factor in either drying time or cost. Obviously the cheapest fuel for your log burner is wood you have collected yourself. To make the logs burn safely and efficiently you will need to dry them out, ideally for around one to two years. It is of course possible to buy ready to use logs but these will be more expensive and research will be required.

Pellets

Pellets are made from wood by-products, such as sawdust or other organic materials like corn which is tightly packed together. Be sure you are aware of the type of pellet the stove you are purchasing will burn. We have a good range on offer at Kent-Stoves and will advise you which best meets your needs.

Many pellet stoves have a “hopper”, which feeds the pellet into the stove so it needs filling less frequently.

Safety and expert advice

For safety and to maximize efficiency, you should always have a professional install your wood or pellet burning appliance. A professional will carefully evaluate everything from your chimney to your floor protection. A certified professional can also help you choose the best appliance to heat your home.
